Live Scan Finger Printing
Live Scan Finger Printing is the electronic process of obtaining ones finger prints and transmitting them to the proper law enforcement and licensing agency for the purpose of a thorough background investigation. Once received by the law enforcement agency a background investigation is conducted to match the identity of the person printed as well as expose any criminal background. Once the background investigation has been completed by the law enforcement agency they forward the results of their investigation to the licensing agency who then makes the decision to issue or not issue the license that the applicant has applied for.
The following is a flow list of how an applicants prints are handled by the different agencies responsible for an application through BSIS which include; Guard Card, Fire Arm permit, Baton Permit, Mace Permit, PI License, Private Patrol Operator License, etc…
1. Applicant obtains live scan services at a licensed and approved facility like that of SC3 or Security Code-3
2.
The prints are obtained and transmitted to the DOJ/FBI and BSIS. The DOJ/FBI proceeds with the background investigation.
3.
Once their investigation is complete, the DOJ/FBI notifies BSIS of the results.
4.
Receiving the results, The BSIS either issues or denies the applicants license.
Other agencies requiring live scan finger printing for licensing purposes are so similar. Once could remove the initials BSIS in the above flow list and replace them with their licensing agency whether it be the State Contractors Board, Dept. of Real Estate, Council on Child Care, etc...
Costs for Live Scan Services
The cost for live scan finger printing services can vary depending on the licensing agency and the charge that the DOJ/FBI have mandated for any particular industry. In most cases any licensing to do with volunteering or youth services are relatively less than those for a professional license. Although these fees vary, the fee charged by SC3/Security Code-3 to obtain and transmit prints (live scan service) remains a low $25.00 to non students and $20.00 to students attending courses at the training facility.
